Ellensburg city officials began a restoration project for a historic downtown rodeo mural on August 28, 2026, the first major repair since its creation in 1983.

The mural, located on the side of a building near the Ellensburg rodeo grounds, had been deteriorating for years. City staff confirmed the work is part of preparations for the upcoming Ellensburg Rodeo, scheduled for late August and early September 2026.

The city did not specify the exact cost of the restoration or whether the mural was repainted or repaired using original materials.
